I’ve been neglecting my weekly updates! Things have been busy.
Chompers: Harry currently has three teeth and he’s working on a fourth. It’s amazing how big his teeth are. After months of gums, the teeth are hard to accept. It’s going way too fast.
The Poop: Harry has had a constipation issue the last couple weeks. We’ve started a prune regimen, which has helped, but much of my life has been consumed with what Harry is eating and pooping. So much of our conversation at home is spent describing the precise size and texture of his poop. This is the standard line of questioning Ben hears every day: Did Harry poop? How big was it? Was it the size of a Ding Dong or more like a Peppermint Patty? Did you squish it? Was it hard? What color was it? Did he grunt? Did his face turn red? How long did it take him to go? Did he look like he was in pain?
The Solids: Harry is well into solids. He eats everything, though he always defaults to a barfy face for the first bite. No matter what I feed him, he looks horrified with the first bite. His favorite so far is applesauce. That kid can put away the applesauce!
Crawling: So far, Harry is not crawling. But, he’s made significant progress in that direction. In fact, he’s started military crawling on his belly (picture Army guys wriggling underneath barbed wire on their elbows and knees). He’s getting very fast at it, but I can already tell he’s trying to get farther faster. It’s only a matter of time before he pops his belly up and really takes off.
Sleep: We’re not even going to talk about how little Harry is sleeping right now. He has way too much to do. He wakes up in the middle of the night and he’s ready for activities. He’s Ben! Agh.
Mr. Independent: Harry is an explorer and likes to do his own thing. He’s much more likely to crawl away from me than to me. He wants to get out into the hallway and as far off his playmat as possible. And, he’d like to do it on his own…until he doesn’t anymore and he screams. Ben and I both want him to check things out on his own as much as possible. I’m happy to lurk and make sure he’s not doing anything dangerous, but we both want to encourage him to explore and figure things out. He’s a little scientist right now, and we’re happy to let him roam.
Giggle Machine: Everything is funny right now. Harry is constantly laughing about something we’re doing. He’s just so interested and amused. It’s completely adorable.
Kiss Quota: I cannot stop kissing this baby! He tries to kiss me back, but it feels more like biting my face. I love it. He also likes to “whisper” in my ear at full volume. Adorable stuff.

What’s Next: His 9-month checkup! I’m so excited to see how much he weighs. He feels like a bowling ball!
